Innovative library services like OPAC, remote access to the electronic library resources may help the academic community in a better way. This study explores the trends of library services in the study area Goalpara District of Assam. At present library is characterized by automation, digitization, institutional repository with an integrated library software system connected via internet. Libraries need to transform as per the expectations and demands of the users from offline to online library services. As the libraries are increasingly being redefined from static store house to dynamic remote access to the different resources at round the clock. Libraries may extend their services beyond the physical walls of the library. The study highlights the present status of the libraries in different aspects. The present study is to find out how the post graduate students of Dibrugarh University use social networking sites for their academic work purpose. A structured questionnaire was designed and personally distributed among 150 respondents. Most of them are using these sites for their academic purposes. YouTube, Facebook, Research gate and Academia.edu are the most preferred social networking sites for research purposes. Finally, a majority of respondents said using SNSs may be a waste of time. The main objective of the study was to see what kind of problems has been facing by students in their studies since the academic libraries are closed for long time and how they are progressing with their studies in the absence of library. The study was carried out in the college and university students in Assam including Research Scholars. The study employed a survey with the help of a questionnaire with open and close ended questions. Data was collected with the help of questionnaires and personal observations. Quantitative data was analysed by using Microsoft Excel, while content analysis was adopted for qualitative data. The findings of the report proves that directly and indirectly students are solely dependent on libraries for preparing notes, self-study, reading newspapers and magazines and most importantly for accessing the campus Wi-Fi for subscribed journals. The study is based on selected engineering college of Assam i.e. Assam Engineering College and Jorhat Engineering College. The study also shows how the user is connected through ICT. This paper discusses changing dynamics of user community approach to information seeking and their dynamic behavior to information needs and search, which invariably point towards emerging technologies like social media tools and other open source software to make library services responsive. This paper shows that college library is providing Web-OPAC or Mobile OPAC for data sharing and whether they have used union catalogue system for data entry or not and that what kinds of problems LIS Professionals faced while utilizing the Library management software.
