Hospitality in University Libraries: Users’ Perception

Abstract

Libraries are established to provide information, resources and services to meet user information needs. User satisfaction and maximum use of library sources and services have become important topic for libraries to maintain awareness among users. Many libraries are focusing on evaluation of the users’ need and their satisfaction with their services. Library user satisfaction can provide better understanding of user’s perception and service quality in libraries. Providing high quality library service is not easy task, and it needs regular feedback and assessment. By knowing of users’ perception and satisfaction, libraries can tailor those services according to their needs. Keeping the importance of reading, studying and conducting research in view many studies are conducted in the developed world, but in India the situation is not encouraging. Very few studies are conducted to find out the status of library services but there is no data available on user satisfaction with library services. Keeping the gaps and need of the time in view, the basic purpose of this survey is to get broad understanding of users’ perception with library environment and is also closely related on its quality service. It also explores their satisfaction with the various types of library services and library hospitality/ friendly in terms of service and environment.
