Impact of Open Access System in Handling Library Materials in the College Libraries with Special Reference to Dibrugarh District

Abstract

A library user always deserves freedom while searching various library materials in the library. This is possible only if the library follow open access system. So that, the present study focuses on the impact of open access system while handling library materials in the college libraries. Though the open access system have opened the doors of the library to all, but it has also left many challenges to in the management of library. The study focuses the problems with open access system in handling library materials, the precautions that are taken by the library professionals after implementing the system in college libraries. The primary data have been collected from the selected major college libraries of Dibrugarh District. Relevant literatures have been also consulted for the study. The paper highlights the criteria for implementation of open access system and explains the merits and demerits of open access system. By considering the merits and finding out solution to overcome the demerits, every college library should implement this system. The study reveals that the successful operation of open access system is only possible if the library professionals introduce proper security measures in the library. Library should introduce a userfriendly electronic surveillance system.
